Many associations do not sunset programs, products, and services even when the investment far exceeds the return. In her article, “How to Create and Implement a Stop-Doing List for Your Association,” on ASAE’s website, Avenue M Principal Elena Gerstmann, PhD, FASAE, CAE, shares practical steps on creating a “stop-doing” list.

Step one? “Decide who will lead the effort” — determine if staff should handle this effort or if a consultant should be hired to facilitate the process. With either approach for creating a “stop-doing” list, Elena cautions, “Do not underestimate the time commitment of doing this correctly.”
